Bacolod City

The City of Smiles — MassKara festival, sugar heritage mansions, chicken inasal and the friendliest streets in the Visayas.

About Bacolod City

The City of Smiles

Bacolod, capital of Negros Occidental, earned its nickname in the 1980s when its MassKara Festival — thousands of smiling masks in the streets — lifted the city through a sugar-industry crisis. Today it is one of the Visayas' most livable cities: heritage mansions from the sugar baron era, the famous The Ruins, an inasal grilled-chicken culture that people cross islands for, and a gateway to Negros' beaches, waterfalls and coffee farms.
